HVAC 101 for Pet Owners

Pets are wonderful to have around the home because they offer companionship and unconditional love. However, owning a pet is a big responsibility. Among the other things you need to keep in mind to keep them happy and healthy, you’ll also need to pay special attention to your heating and air conditioning system. Pet owners need to keep their home safe and comfortable for their pets by keeping their HVAC units in good shape.

HVAC Construction Inc. shares a few ways to do so below.

  • Change Your Filters Regularly – Pet owners will need to change their heating and air conditioning filters more often than people who don’t have a pet. This is because pet dander can clog your air filters. Change your air filter every 20 to 60 days depending on how many pets you have in your home. Consider getting air filters specifically designed to capture pet dander as well.

  • Protect Your Outside Condenser Unit – The outside unit of your heating and air conditioning system could be in danger if your pet has free rein over the yard. Your pet might claw the fins on the condenser coils, for instance, damaging the unit and possibly injuring themselves. Dogs can also damage the condenser by urinating on it. Prevent these issues by putting a barrier around your condenser unit.

  • Consider Getting an Air Purifier – Pet dander can be the cause of allergies and it can accumulate inside your home without proper air ventilation for your heating and air conditioning system. To address this, keep your ductwork clean and use an air purifier to clean the air that has recirculated through the air filters and ducts. This can reduce allergic reactions and improve your home’s indoor air quality.

These tips will keep your heating and air conditioning system in good condition and keep your pet safe. If you need more advice, don’t hesitate to call HVAC Construction.
